Our GOALS Human growth That the young may appreciate the positive values of their rural roots and the dignity and value of agricultural work. May they strive by continuous learning to develop productivity and food sufficiency. Relational Growth Choice Dimension
Growth Faith Growth Why an Agro-Technology Program? Some Facts: The Philippine is
basically an agricultural country. About 57% of its population lives in
rural areas, where the poverty is more acute that in urban areas. In the Philippines,
the agricultural production increased in the years 1990-1998 by about
1.5% each year. At the same time, the Philippine population grew in a
yearly average of 2.3%. It means that actual growth of the Philippine
agricultural sector did not keep pace worth the population increase. The average
Philippine household income apportioned to food is 40%, compared to just
10 to 15% in developed countries. The percentage increases to about 60%
with poor families, which make up about 40% of the population. Conclusion:
There is a strong
need to address poverty alleviation for youth in the rural areas and to
increase production of nutritious food, especially for the poor who
cannot afford to buy it.
